A speech therapist working with a young child

Welcome to Speech Strides

At Speech Strides, we bring professional, play-based therapy to the places your child feels most at ease. Whether it’s in their home environment, preschool, daycare, or private school, we meet your child in their natural element to make learning feel like second nature. The rest can remain the same.

Communication is a family journey, and we are here to guide you every step of the way. Our therapists specialize in coaching parents to turn everyday moments—like snack time or bedtime stories—into powerful opportunities for language development. Together, we’ll help your child make meaningful strides toward clear and confident communication.

Jennifer Daniels, M.S., CCC-SLP

Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist

Hi, I’m Jennifer — a licensed speech-language pathologist and the proud owner of Speech Strides. For more than a decade I’ve worked alongside young children and their families, helping little voices grow into confident communicators. I believe therapy is most powerful when it feels like play, and that parents are the most important teachers a child will ever have.

I founded Speech Strides to bring warm, individualized therapy directly into the spaces where children already feel safe and curious — at home, daycare, preschool, or private school. I am a speech language pathologist today because I was first a mom sitting on the other side of the therapy table. Through my son’s therapy journey, I watched him grow, find his voice, and gain confidence. Today, I bring not only clinical training but also a parent’s perspective, empathy, and determination to help every child reach their fullest communicative potential. In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, reading, working puzzles, and spending time with my family.

Heather Scism, M.S., CCC-SLP

Speech-Language Pathologist

I was born and raised in New Jersey and moved to Charlotte in 2003. I completed my undergraduate at West Virginia University and received a Master’s degree from Appalachian State University. Go Mountaineers! Since graduating in 2011, I have always worked in a pediatric setting. My favorite part of this job is helping kids find their voice to communicate with the ones they love most- their families! In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband and two daughters who keep us very busy! We love taking family trips, especially to Hilton Head Island.

What Families Are Saying

“My son has been in speech therapy since he was 2 years old, and after working with three different speech therapists, we finally found Jennifer when he was 7. At that point, he still had so much work to do on his speech. I have been absolutely amazed by the progress he has made with Jennifer in such a short amount of time! She is patient, knowledgeable, encouraging, and truly exceptional at what she does. I recommend her to everyone I know who has a child with speech needs. She is by far the best speech therapist we have ever worked with!”

“Ms. Heather is an exceptional speech therapist. She works incredibly well with our son and has a wonderful, sweet demeanor that makes him feel comfortable during every session. We especially appreciate that she provides detailed feedback after each visit, which helps us stay involved in his progress. We couldn’t be happier with the care she provides!”

“Heather with Speech Strides has been such a joy to work with regarding speech services for our son! She keeps the lessons engaging with games and activities he enjoys. I have been so impressed with the improvement in his speech but an unexpected bonus has been her communication with parents. She does a fantastic job of updating us on our child’s progress and letting us know where he may have extra challenges so we can work on exercises at home if we have time. Overall, we are very happy. Heather has done a great job both getting to know our son over the years (ages 3-5) and leading his speech therapy. Highly, highly recommend!”
